Maasai Village

Yesterday we didn’t have school in the morning, because James was stung by a bee (a wild African bee) and therefore was really tired/out of it. Instead of school, we went to the Maasai village, which is next to Matapwili. We saw their houses and cows and a TWO day old calf that was sooo skinny and small. It was kinda freaky. Then, Mama Justine, a Maasai woman, had the idea to dress me and Emily, the American girl, as traditional Maasai brides! They brought out all of their cloth and jewelry and we got all dressed up and took pictures. It was fun. It is crazy to see the huts that they live in- and how simple their lives are. They were all very friendly and nice to us, and it was really fun going there. By the time we came back for lunch we were starving. We ate and then had some rest time. We came back together at 3:30 for tea and played rummy (my new favorite game) for an hour or so. Then I made a crossword puzzle for all of the children and their families that are coming next week to stay at the camp (4 families with 7 children!). Then I went for a run, showered, had drinks by the fire, and had dinner. Dinner was pork with apples, scalloped potatoes, and brocolli. We had mud cake for dessert, SUCH a treat (it was Emily’s last night).

This morning at breakfast we got SWARMED by bees. Because we burned the grass and it hasn’t grown back just yet, they have nothing to eat, so they smell the honey and fruit we have in the morning and come to eat and drink. It’s insane and makes eating breakfast very adventurous…

Now we are about to begin school, and it should be a pretty slow afternoon. I’m going to practice my Swahili, as Swahili class has been replaced by rummy at night recently!
