The past week has been both hectic and relaxing at times. We had a huge group of clients come through this weekend: 8 adults and 7 kids. There was always something going on, and we were pretty busy. As a result of all of the children, school was cancelled on Saturday and Sunday. One of the things we did with the kids was try to make fire from rubbing sticks together. Ray made a contraption that makes it a little easier than just rubbing 2 sticks- there are 4 involved. Its pretty hard to explain, so I will try to post a picture later. Anyway, after about half an hour, I almost started a fire. My sticks were smoking and it almost caught. Next time I am determined to get it right!
I have started reading King Leopold’s Ghost in my spare time, a book about the Belgium exploitation of the Congo. Its really gruesome, but well written and informative. Also, another great book about Africa that I just finished is Wildflower, the biography of Joan Root, a filmmaker and activist living in Kenya. I would also recommend that one!
Other than that, James has a big test today- hopefully he does well! This afternoon I will relax/run/maybe go to the river. No more clients until Thursday. I go to Dar Es Salaam on Saturday, then Zanzibar on Tuesday!
who gave you the book??:)
